Periodontal Disease

Keeping up with your oral hygiene is important because if you find yourself slacking, it could lead to potential issues such as periodontal disease. Dr. Freeman and the entire team at Brilliant Dental Care want your oral health to be in the best possible shape at all times.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease is very common, but it doesn’t take much to prevent it. All you have to do is be thorough with your regular oral hygiene. If you aren’t keeping up with brushing, tartar can get stuck below the gum line. If this dental condition does happen to you, it can lead to inflamed gums and even tooth loss.

Some of the most common signs of periodontal disease include:

  1. Tender, swollen, or bleeding gums
  2. Bad breath
  3. Loose teeth
  4. Pain while chewing
  5. Receding gums

How is Periodontal Disease Treated?

Periodontal disease is treated with gum infection therapy or a deep cleaning. During a deep cleaning, which is also called scaling and root planing, one of our dental hygienists will use a scaler to remove any plaque and tartar.

Our team at Brilliant Dental Care also uses laser technology to help kill bacteria and control infection. Treatment for periodontal disease will take a minimum of two visits, with the potential for a follow-up to see if the gum pockets have healed correctly.

What Are the Benefits of Treating Periodontal Disease?

  1. Healthier gums
  2. Puts a stop to pain and discomfort
  3. Takes care of bad breath
