Extractions In Houston

Extractions

Tooth extractions are never an ideal situation. The last thing we want to do is remove a tooth that we could save with proper general dental treatment. Even if it might seem easier to simply remove and replace, our goal is always to save first. However, there will be times when it becomes a necessity.

Do I Need a Tooth Extraction Houston?

One of the most common reasons for extraction is an impacted wisdom tooth. Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that may never break through the gum. This can be due to overcrowding or being stuck behind bone. In these cases, we would need to remove the impacted tooth to prevent oral health issues.

A tooth may also need to be removed if it’s too damaged from either injury or decay. While we will attempt to save it, some teeth can be damaged beyond repair, requiring an extraction.

The Tooth Extraction Process

Before Dr. Freeman begins the extraction process, we will first numb the tooth, jawbone, and gums with a local anesthetic. The dentist will use a tool to grab onto the tooth and gently remove it. At this time, you may feel a bit of pressure – but no pain. In some cases, Dr. Freeman may need to cut the tooth into sections before removal.

After we’re finished, we will have you bite down on some gauze to stop the bleeding and give you important instructions to follow for the coming days.

What Are the Benefits of a Tooth Extraction?

  • No more pain or discomfort
  • Your oral health is improved
  • Stop any infection from spreading
